10/24/2008 Shot the "on location" section of the Apple segment for The Onion. Usually these shoots are just me in front of a green screen, but this one was actually on a BEAUTIFULLY decorated set with extras and an OUTSTANDING improv actor named Todd Levin. 10/17/2008 Participated in a backers audition--a reading of a play or musical for potential investors. The musical is called "White Noise." Really powerful piece written by Matte O'Brien. Hopefully, the show will find it's footing! 10/12/2008 Shot my 5th and 6th segments for The Onion. So wrong. Oh, so wrong. One was about a video game called "Point Blank" and the other was about Apple's "new" laptop...just wait and see. 9/11/2008 Did a shoot for a company called Gartner that will show for a limited time on their web site: Gartner.com. The instructional videos are for the visitors of the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2008 that will take place in Orlando, Florida. The videos were created to help the over 6000 visitors register for the Symposium and choose which keynotes and other events they would like to attend. This was directed by Chris Davis who owns a production company called Carpet Pictures...take a look at the trailers on his web site. Fascinating stuff, AND, he's a GREAT director!
9/6/2008 Shot another in-house industrial video for the Cohn Creative Group, this time for Ernst and Young. I had the pleasure of working with Christopher Flockton (left). You may not recognize Christopher by name or by site, but you'd recognize his voice in an instant. He has been the voice of the hit series "The Fabulous Life Of..." on VH1 for 6 seasons. Oddly enough, this photo was not taken during our shoot, but this is how he showed up to the shoot...no, not really.
8/26/2008 Shot a REALLY fun commercial for Capital IQ, which is a brand of financial software. The cool part about this spot is that it will air in the tri-state area and in New York City taxi cabs. (For those of you not living in NYC, our taxi cabs have video screens in the back seat that play the days top news stories, weather and other information to help pass the time while you wait in traffic). I have been in a constant state of amazement by the number of my friends who have seen this commercial while in a taxi...and, even more amazed at the number of my friends that TAKE a taxi to their final destination!
8/12-8/13/2008 Worked with the Cohn Creative Group again for a Price Waterhouse Coopers in-house video with a FANTASTIC cast including Alan Muraoka (who plays the proprietor of Mr. Hooper's store on Sesame Street), Manu Narayan (from the Mike Meyers film The Love Guru) and Derek Peith (who I've worked with before, though we couldn't quite remember where).
7/7/2008 Shot an NFL national commercial directed by Aaron Ruell (right) who played "Kip Dynamite" in the film Napoleon Dynamite...GREAT director and a really fun shoot.
6/25/2008 This entry isn't about me (odd, I know) but I was SO proud of my friend Barbara Suter, that I wanted to share this. Barbara Suter and I worked together at a pharma job in Las Vegas three years ago and hit it off. She's got a really dry/biting sense of humor, so it just made sense. Barbara sent me a note saying that she was FINALLY PUBLISHED and that she was having a book signing for her novel "Dorothy On The Rocks." This photo is from the book reading/signing. It's WONDERFUL to see someone reach a goal that they've worked so hard at achieving! Congratulations!!! 6/18-6/23/2008 "Workshopped" a fantastic new show by Chris Boal called 23 Knives. The workshop was produced by the Resonance Theatre Ensemble, and we performed the (very successful) reading at the Manhattan Theatre Club. Hopefully, Resonance will put the show in their 2008/2009 Season. UPDATE--9/14/2008--They HAVE put the show in their 2008/2009 Season!! 6/10/2008 Shot my first Comedy Central job! It's a new (secretive) sketch-comedy show with an AMAZING stand-up comedian. The shoot required that I wear a skull cap, which wasn't the issue. The issue was that we shot on the hottest day of the year so far in a house that didn't have air conditioning. The biggest joy of the day was taking the skull cap off at the end of the shoot...plus, it makes for one disturbing photo. The photos below (left to right) show the three steps. Step one was putting the cap on, step two was airbrushing the cap and step three was removing the cap at the end of the day. 6/3/2008 Did re-shoots for the test segment of Helping Out...so the final version should be complete and ready to view in a couple of days!!!! 6/2/2008 Hosted the 11th Annual Organization for Autism Research Benefit at Caroline's Comedy Club. This was the 4th time I've hosted this event and this, by far, was the best of the four! The performers for the evening were: The Walton Brothers (Jim and Bob Walton--HUGE Broadway stars Click Here For The Walton Brothers Musical Web Site), Angela LaGreca (FANTASTIC stand-up comedian/singer who works as a producer with Meredith Viera at The Today Show on NBC Click Here For Angela's Web Site), Audrey Flack and the Art Officials (Blugrass Band, who made their debut performance that evening on stage at Caroline's), Tony DeSare (a REMARKABLE Harry Connic, Jr.-like performer with an OUTSTANDING voice and amazing piano skills--Click Here For Tony's Web Site) and our headliner (and one of my personal favorite singers) Liz Callaway (Click Here For Liz's Web Site) . 5/18-19/2008 In Salt Lake City (for less than 24 hours) for Roche Pharmaceuticals. I hosted a "game show" with the Roche Executives as the contestants. 5/17/2008 Filmed my 3rd and 4th videos for "The Onion."
2/25/2008 Shot with my favorite production company (The Mazzarella Brothers) in Bristol, CT. This time we did a kid's video on the basics of our government called Citizens Rule! 1/3/2008 Hosted a video for Canon's annual sales meeting at their headquarters in Long Island, NY...quite a facility. This is the second year I've done this video for Canon.
12/1/2007 I hosted the First Annual One Act High School Play Festival at St. Paul Catholic HighSchool in Bristol, CT. Mark Mazzarella (one of the Mazzarella Brothers, of the Mazzarella Brothers Production Company, that I've shot over 25 educational kid's videos with) is now the drama teacher at St. Paul Catholic High School and decided that he would put together a One Act/Monologue Play Festival for his High School students and the students from the surrounding areas. Five area High Schools competed and I hosted the evening. Since this was a competition, we needed judges, so Mark pulled together the people in the photo to the right. (From left to right) Me, Semina DeLaurentis (who is now the Artistic Director of Seven Angels Theatre in CT and created the role of Sister Amnesia in the hysterical muscial Nunsense for which she recieved the NY Outer Critics Circle Award), Mark Mazzarella, Joanne Greco Rochman (managing editor of TheatreCT Magazine and professor at Sacred Heart University and Housatonic Community College) and Pierre Rochman (actor, producer and director, he's also Joanne's husband and he creates the calendar and theatre directory for TheatreCT Magazine). 11/30/2007 Shot two segments for The Onion News Network. Here in New York The Onion is a free newspaper featuring fake (and often I'd been wanting to be a part of their video "news" stories since they starting filming them, and I am now their new Tech Trends Reporter, Jeff Tate. My first "story" should start to run on their site at the end of January or beginning of February. It's a "charming" Valentine's Day piece. Of course, by "charming" I mean "offensive." But, hopefully, it will be funny. 10/15-10/17/2007 In the tropical city of Nutley, NJ working for Roche Pharmaceuticals. Bob Ackerman with MediaAmerica directed the in-house video to be shown to the Roche Sales Force.
10/2-10/3/2007 In HOTLANTA, Georgia! And, yes, it WAS hot there! I shot three web videos with a FANTASTIC production company and ad agency. My co-star was a FABULOUS local actress named Eaddy Mays on this shoot. She played the "news anchor" and I played the "on the scene reporter" in a basement reporting on how mold is trying to take over the world, but with Georgia Pacific's new paperless dry wall, "Americans are being urged to Stop Feeding Mold!" This was a REALLY fun shoot with director George Watkins from Synergy Films in Atlanta and the advertising agency, LKM, from Charlotte, NC. We spent most of the day laughing...which is the only way that I like to work, honestly. 9/25/2007 Made my debut on the ABC Daytime Drama, "One Life To Live." This was probably the BEST television experience I've had, from the simple fact that I completely felt like I was in my element. I've always enjoyed doing television commercials and industrial videos, but television is what I am meant to be doing. Not just soap operas, but to be in a television studio (with or without an audience) is what I love to do most out of everything that I've done. Not to mention, that this will be the greatest amount of national exposure from one day's work. We'll see where this leads! Frank Valentini was our FANTASTIC director and he is also the Executive Producer for the show.
Both Tuc and Tonja have such an underplayed sense of humor on the show and I have...uh...well, something not underplayed, that it created for a fun shoot. You'll have to watch to see what I mean. The episode aired on November 9, 2007 on ABC.
9/16-9/18-2007 In Orlando, Florida (again) hosting the launch of a new drug for Pfizer with the first production company that I ever hosted ANYTHING for, Jack Morton Worldwide.
This was, by far, the best pharmaceutical broadcast that I've ever done. I've worked with Pfizer several times before in several places around the country, and was grateful for this opportunity. They are a great group of people that seem to enjoy what I add to their meeting.
8/25-8/30/2007 In Orlando, Florida hosting the live launch of Reclast, a new once-yearly I.V. injectable medication for post-menopausal women. 8/21/2007 Made my independent film debut in a film called Chasing the Green starring William Devane (from the television show Knots Landing) directed by Russ Emanuel and produced by Howard Nash. 8/9/2007 Shot my third in-house video for the New York Stock Exchange with the Sound/Video Impressions Production Company of Des Plaines, IL (directed, once again, by Lisa Levin) at City Stages in New York City.
The shoot was directed by David Darby.
This was the fastest experience I've ever had filming anything...EVER! I arrived at the studio, had my makeup done and got into wardrobe then headed down to make my debut. I met Trent Dawson who plays "Henry" on the show (and has since 1999), then we ran through the scene 1 time before they started rolling the cameras (that surprised me...that there wasn't more rehearsal). During the first take, there was a camera mix-up so we only made it half-way through the scene. We restarted and made it all the way through the scene and then we heard, "Ok! Moving on!" And that was it. I ran through the scene two and a half times and then I was done with the whole experience. The episode is scheduled to air on August 29th on CBS.
7/18/2007 I was thinking Arby's while I recorded a national radio spot for the roast beef sandwich company at Kamen Audio in New York.
6/4/07 Hosted, for the third year in a row, the Shotgun 5/30/2007 Shot an industrial video for Canon that is to be used at their big conference in Chicago in June. This was a difficult shoot because I had to play 3 different versions of myself and have a conversation with the other "Todd's." But, of course, you have to shoot these "conversations" one at a time and then it's the editors job to make it look like you're not an idiot. 5/27/2007 Hosted the Interactive New Media Awards Show (which was created by the same people that invented the Cleo--advertising--Award) at the Daryl Roth Theatre in New York. The awards were presented to individuals or companies that excelled at "spreading the word" about products or services by means of various new technologies. The irony of the whole job was that all of OUR technology (the lights, sound cues, videos) all failed MISERABLY! Sound cues were wrong, late or never happened at all, videos didn't play or were out of sync with the sound, cameras that we had rehearsed with the day before completely malfunctioned during the show and created series of "interesting" moments. "It's the spontaneity of live performance that is it's greatest charm." 4/12/2007 Shot the best pharmaceutical video that I've ever done. DazMedia was the production company ( from Hackensack, NJ) and the product was a new class of ADHD medication. The pharmaceutical company decided to spend money on actual visual effects and computer generated graphics...making it look and feel like something more than a "talking head" video. (I'm usually the "talking head," by the way) 3/17-3/21/2007 In Chicago, Illinois again for another pharmaceutical product launch. The celebrity guest on this job was Mindy Burbano-Stearns. The photo below (from left to right) : Unknowingly, Oprah was watching on a monitor backstage. When the show started, Oprah came out for her entrance, picked Mindy out of the crowd and asked her to do her impressions in front of the live audience (and about 40 million people around the world). From there, everyone wanted to do a radio and TV interview with Mindy because "she was the woman on the Oprah show that imitated the rooster." Two months later, Mindy was hosting segments on "Entertainment Tonight" interviewing major celebrites and music icons. Amazing story, and an amazingly talented woman...and, honestly, a JOY to work with!
3/12/2007 Hosted the 2007 Otterbein Senior Showcase Benefit Concert at my alma mater, Otterbein College. Every year, (of course this started AFTER I graduated) the graduating B.F.A. Program seniors come to New York and perform a showcase of their work. Each senior sings two songs, or does a combo of a song and a monologue (or just two monologues), for an audience of agents, managers and casting directors. Before they leave Otterbein for the New York showcase, they do a benefit concert to raise money to cover the cost of their airfare and housing. This year just happened to be the 100th anniversary of theatre at Otterbein so, they decided to ask a bunch of alumni to participate in the "alumni portion" of the program...AND, they asked if I would host the benefit. So, I did and had a GREAT time! The photo above is of the two costume wonders at Otterbein...Marci Hain, to the left of me, (who handles the actual construction of the costumes for the theatre department), and Katie Robbins, to the right of me, who wears many hats--from designing costumes to teaching classes on theatre history. Both are FANTASTIC people that are truly gifted at what they do. Not to mention the fact that they taught me an incredible amount while I was a student at "The OC." The photo to the right (left to right): TJ Harvey (Lori Kay's FANTASTIC husband), me, Lori Kay (Brassfied) Harvey (we did Grease! in Brazil together--she played "Cha Cha" to my "Vince Fontaine"--and NOW, she's teaching voice at Otterbein...weird coincidence), David Caldwell (fellow Otterbein alum and very patient director of the benefit), Tess Hartman (amazing actress who had the crowd laughing and crying during her monologue) and Heather McClellan (another Otterbein alum who went on to get her masters in voice).
12/7/06 Shot another kids video with the Mazzarella Brothers (for Sunburst Communications) in Bristol, CT called "The Top 10 Conflict Starters/Stoppers."
8/19/06 Shot an in-house industrial video for a new contraceptive medication manufactured by Duramed Pharmaceuticals (for Highland Entertainment--Don Wells, Director) with Stephanie Kurtzuba. Oddly enough, Stepahnie and I had about 6 people in common...including Ginette Rhodes, who played my wife in Married Alive! in Kansas City. We shot this on a Saturday and Stephanie was actually starting rehearsals for the Broadway Musical: Disney's Mary Poppins on Monday.
8/18/06 Shot 2 promos for CBS playing the "Stopwatch Guy" (hard to explain) for the new season of "Amazing Race," "Cold Case" and "Without A Trace." We spent the day saying and spelling out "Race, Case, Trace" with sandwich boards. We filmed at VideoFilm Systems of Norwalk, CT. The photo to the left is of the cast of the first section of this promo--you can see the sandwich boards with the letters. The woman kneeling in front is the choreographer. I'm standing in back with the "60 Minutes" stopwatch.
Nancy Johnston (photo to the left) was one of the New York actors that was hired to reinact doctor/patient scenes for this live broadcast--here she is as a 62 year old woman (not anywhere NEAR her actual age). Nancy was in the First National Tour of "The Producers" and also in the film version of the musical...though, we never worked together before Vegas because we were in different scenes.
6/15/06 Shot tutorial videos (produced by Modem Media) for the new SonyRewards (click here to go to SonyRewards.com) web site. These videos will guide users on how to redeem their Sony points for merchandise in the Rewards Catalog, earn more points through surveys and purchases and inform viewers of "The Wheel Of Fortune" (through the "Wheel Watchers Club") as to how they can win weekly and monthly prizes from Sony. 6/7/06 Shot a manager training video (on how managers should conduct an employee review session) for Goldman Sachs at their office in Jersey City, NJ for the Modern Concepts Production Company--directed by Bill Stokes.
5/8/06 Recorded another voice over for a National Nutrogena TV commercial (CLICK HERE TO WATCH SPOT) that aired furing Saturday Night Live (Julia Louis-Dreyfus hosted). It was scheduled to only run one time (as did the Nutrogena spot that served as the into to this season's live premiere of "Will & Grace"), with the possibility of running again in the future. We recorded at The Sound Lounge Recording Studio, NYC.
2/6/06 Shot 6 commercials for Better Bedding (COMPANY WEB SITE) at their store in Bristol, CT with the Mazzarella Brothers Production Company. 1/18-1/19/06 Shot an in-house industrial sales video Roche Pharmaceuticals for their osteoperosis medication (Boniva) at their headquarters in Nutley, NJ with Bob Ackerman (director) from MediaAmerica. 12/15/05 Performed in a "backers audition" (which simply means: the reading of a play or musical by a cast of actors for potential investors) of The Chaos Theories by Alexander Dinelaris for Miljam Productions. The male half of the cast performed this show in the New York Fringe Festival back in August of 2004 (see bottom of this page for details), and for this backers audition, we were joined by a pretty remarkable female half. The photo above is of the backers audition cast (from left to right): Ally Sheedy ("The Breakfast Club"), Kathleen Chalfant (Lortel, Drama Desk & Obie Award Winner for Wit), me, Ian Kahn (who read stage directions beautifully), Ted Kóch (Broadway: The Pillow Man, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof), Julian Gamble (8 Broadway shows, countless TV & Film credits), Karen Ziemba (Tony & Drama Desk Award Winner), Elisabeth Moss ("The West Wing") and Matt Rauch (Off Broadway's Hurlybury). 12/8/05 Shot a tongue-in-cheek "day in the life" of a Novonordisk hospital sales rep for Todd Street Productions (directed by Peter Sasowsky). Shot on location at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA. 11/12/05 Shot another in-house security video (directed by Lisa Levin) for the New York Stock Exchange at the NYSE building in NY with the Sound/Video Impressions Production Company of Des Plaines, IL. 11/10-11/11/05 Shot Better Bedding (COMPANY WEB SITE) in-house training video for the Mazzarella Brothers Production Company (directed by Tom and Tony Mazzarella, Jr.) in Bristol, CT. I HIGHLY recommend the Natural Response Latex Enhanced Sleep Luxury "Monterey" mattress, by the way. 10/27/05 Shot "Safe and Sound" (safety video for kids) for the Mazzarella Brothers Production Company in Bristol, CT. 10/26/05 Recorded additional voice over material for GDC Homes industrial video for Turnstone Productions. 10/6/05 Shot an in-house security video (directed by Lisa Levin) for the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) at City Stage in NY produced by Sound/Video Impressions Productions Company of Des Plaines, IL. 9/23/05 Recorded National Nutrogena TV voice over (CLICK HERE TO WATCH SPOT), which served as the introduction to the live season premiere of "Will & Grace" on NBC (aired on 9/29/05--since the commercial would introduce the LIVE season premiere, it only aired twice--once on the East Coast and once on the West Coast. We recorded at PhotoMag in NYC. 9/12-9/13/05 Shot 3 over-the-top in-house "Fishfomercials" (CLICK HERE TO WATCH SEGMENT OF THE VIDEO--and, no, that's not a typo) industrials (directed by Peter Sasowsky) for Reliant Pharmaceutical produced by Todd Street Productions at the beautiful Alba Vineyard in Milford, NJ and also in Manhattan.
8/8-8/15/05 In Chicago, Illinois at the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre for the workshop of Married Alive! a new musical by Sean Grennan (book and lyrics) & Leah Okimoto (music). I also did the world premiere (February-April 2006) at the American Heartland Theatre in Kansas City, MO (see entry on 2/9/06). The photo to the left is of the cast of the workshop (left to right) Don Richards, me, Kathy Santen and Heidi Kettenring. Don, Kathy and Heidi were in the Chicago company of Wicked as 'The Wizard' (u/s), 'Madame Morrible' (u/s) and 'Nessarose,' respectively. 7/28/05 Shot kids educational video on 'the new food pyramid' called "What's To Eat" for the Mazzarella Brothers Production Company of Bristol, CT. 7/27/05 Shot national network commercial for the new Sprint/Nextel merger campaign (CLICK HERE TO WATCH COMMERCIAL)--I'm the first voice/body that you hear/see. I also have the line "Lots of different plans...". Shot on location in Jericho, NY for the Smuggler Production Company. 7/11/05 Shot a training video for Pepsi Personel in Somers, NY for Creative Media. 6/28/05 Shot an industrial video for GDC Homes in Danbury, CT for Turnstone Productions. 6/1/05 Recorded national radio voice over commercials for "Schick3 Disposable Razors" at Elements Studios in Stamford, CT. 5/16/05 (My Birthday) Hosted the Shotgun Productions/OAR (Organization for Autsim Research) Benefit at Caroline's Comedy Club in New York. The photo to the right is of me with the four performers (from left to right): Angela LaGreca (a staff writer for "The View" on ABC-TV, and, for 8 years was the regular audience "warm up" person for the show), Jackie Hoffman (the voice of "The Water Cooler" in Pixar's "Robots," she can also be seen in "Legally Blonde 2" and "Kissing Jessica Stein"), me, Julie Halston (Broadway musical Hairspray, played 'Electra' in the Broadway revival of Gypsy with Bernadette Peters, On The Twentieth Century, The Man Who Came to Dinner and was also nominated for a 2005 Drama Desk Award for her role in White Chocolate Off-Broadway) and Donna McKechnie (Tony Award Winner for "Best Actress in a Musical" for the Original Broadway Production of A Chorus Line in 1976).
4/21/05 Played one of 54 "Stormtroopers" in the Mel Brooks/Susan Stroman film "The Producers: The Movie Musical" (released December 2005) shot in Brookly, NY at the Stiner Studios. I actually made it into the trailer--granted, you'll have to look VERY hard to find me, but I'm in the "Springtime For Hitler" number...last row, fourth from the left. Ok, who am I kidding? You'll NEVER see me, but trust me, I'm there! The photo to the left is of me with just the "underclothes" of the very intimidating (and slightly disturbing) "Stormtrooper" costume on in our dressing room before the shoot.
August 2004 As part of the New York Fringe Festival, I took part in a production of The Chaos Theories, written by Alexander Dinelaris, the author of Zanna, Don't! "Disparate souls longing for a touch of humanity, collide at a downtown New York City restaurant in this edgy comedy that jumps, jams, bops and blasts," writes John Gallagher of In-NYC.com. Robert Dominguez of the New York Daily News Wrote: The superb actors, under Stewart M. Schulman's crisp direction, zip on and off the stage in multiple roles that include a power-mad film producer, a dotty homeless woman, a vapid movie star, an overbearing father and a comically snippy waiter. Elias Stimac of Backstage wrote: Most of the ensemble members tackled multiple roles, including the outstanding Kóch and Towne. Standout portrayals included Julian Gamble as a very protective father, Traci Godfrey as a sympathetic homeless woman, Matthew Rauch as a playwright who is being asked to sell out, Pamela Sabaugh as a ruthless stockbroker and Amanda Mantovani as a young woman having a very bad day. Todd Alan Crain had only one role--that of the smarmy but sensible server who has to put up with them all. David Reinwald of NYTheatre.com wrote: Crain masters his singularity as the smart-mouthed, overburdened waiter who becomes the main, connective element in the changing relationships of the play.
The photo above is of the 2004 cast of The Chaos Theories produced as part of the New York Fringe Festival. From left to right: Pamela Sabaugh, Amanda Mantovani, Matthew Rauch (headshot being burned), Traci Godfrey (on floor), Julian Gamble, Maryann Towne, Ted Kóch (shirtless) and me (the headshot on the wall to the right of Ted...I wasn't able to make the photo shoot. Though, our director, Stewart Schulman, stood in for me--in the back in the white shirt).
